What can I tell you?
I’ve been busy.
I made it back from Amsterdam without any long term brain damage and then immediately bounced from Palm Springs to San Francisco to Toronto. Last week I found myself in the high Sierras, crawling on my hands and knees through dense forests of manzanita and poison oak to find the abandoned pot growing camp of a violent Michoacan drug cartel dug into the side of a rocky cliff.
Normally, when I go hiking or camping I just bring a credit card. But on this trip I ended up covered in cuts, scrapes, and bruises. Not to mention bug bites. I would understand if you thought that maybe I’d lost it, maybe that weed in Amsterdam really is too strong. But my new project is non-fiction and, apparently, this is how you do it. You get out, you get dirty, you get the story. No more sitting around in my big purple chair making stuff up. I have to say it’s worth it, the non-fiction book – Heart of Dankness: Underground Botanists, Outlaw Farmers and the Race for the Cannabis Cup – is coming along.
I don’t bother unpacking my suitcase anymore. I have more traveling to do, only this time I’m hitting the road to support BAKED which is, right now, finally, in a bookstore near you! I think you’ll like it. At least I hope you do.
In August, I’ll be at Vroman’s Pasadena on the 19th @ 7:00pm, and then on the 21st at the Mystery Bookstore in Westwood @ 4:00pm.
In September, I’ll be at Booksmith in San Francisco on the 15th, Powell’s in Portland on the 16th, and Elliott Bay Book Co. in Seattle on the 17th. Come out and say hello!
